Ethereum is a living entity, distributed across time and space, accessible through our screens and communication devices. What gives it life are the myriad human relationships that have become entwined with the roots, branches and leaves of the Ethereum state tree. This single tree encodes an enormous value, digital property, application utility – and not an insignificant part of human activity.
But the humans currently giving life to Ethereum do not represent that everyone Humans – The many gaps between cultures, nationalities and class must be bridged. The new use cases and solutions developed, announced and promoted to date by web3 builders do not yet represent the true potential of Ethereum to enable human flourishing – We haven’t even scratched the surface of the possibility space yet.
We think the visionaries are right there. We believe that those who understand and act against the failure of coordination can see a glimmer of hope. They have levers they intend to move the world with, and Ethereum can be a fulcrum for them. For Ethereum to reach the next billion people, it must become useful not only to the techno-optimists, but also everyone On this chaotic and complex human planet.
fellowship
We believe that Ethereum can be used to improve the lives of billions of people. But we need more than just technology – we need new ways of thinking about how humans interact with each other and with their environment. We need new stories to tell, new visions of a better future, and new ways to express our values in code.
The Next Billion Fellowship at the Ethereum Foundation is a search for stories: stories that inspire us to focus on the things that matter, to find balance and fairness in the way we solve our problems, and to delve into the mysteries of human collaboration.
We are looking for change-makers, visionaries and pragmatists. We look for stories that represent the best in us, to better imagine a world where we take the tools at hand, roll up our sleeves, and begin the long, difficult work of pulling the world out of its orchestrated death spiral.
It’s okay to start with experiments, pilots, and research. Stories of invalid assumptions, underestimated challenges, and deviant urges are extremely valuable in the search for new systems of change. We are still at the beginning of a very long journey into uncharted territory – map making is a challenging and worthwhile endeavor.
Fellows may work as individuals or as part of a larger organization. Some colleagues may directly build, Design and test new technologies that solve old problems. Others may have Special interest in a specific human contextand research and share their findings with other creators in the Ethereum community to help them design better solutions. There are no strict requirements for the Next Billion Fellowship project with one exception: seriousness.
The next billion fellows should be on a personal mission. The fellowship is neither the beginning nor the end of their journey, but it may provide some support that enables the fellow to move closer to ambitious goals. Whatever the project, whatever the fellow, the pursuit of the common good must be rooted.
