Dread (2012)

Alex Garland fans will be introduced to Judge Dredd. One of the earlier films written by the author of the science fiction film (based on comics), the science fiction action follows the judge of the same name, which covers everything from jury to executioner. In a dystopian metropolis, Dredd and his apprentice try to overthrow drug lord Ma-Ma, played by Lena Heidi.
Infinity Chamber (2016)

An intriguing premise? Check. Low budget? Check. Rotate in the end? Check. This indie sci-fi mystery by Travis Miloy solidifies its place in Google’s search for “the best indie sci-fi gems.” The complex history of the Infinity Chamber focuses on a man held in automated custody. He has to fight with superior technology to escape, an extremely difficult feat.
Coherence (2013)

Coherence doesn’t need an Avatar-sized budget to create a compelling story. The low-budget indie film follows friends at dinner who begin to notice strange events after the comet passes. Even more disturbing because of its grounded setting, Coherence nailed a brief description of a true indie gem.
Archive (2020)

For a well-made, thoughtful science fiction that takes care not to allow meditations to exceed the value of entertainment, Archive is a great cry. Gavin Rotary’s British directorial debut plays Theo James as a scientist working to make AI as human as possible. His reasons are hidden, personal and will certainly put a wrench in the work. By making comparisons to Ex Machina, Archive is guaranteed to tell stories with a keen focus on the character.
The Terminator (1984)

It doesn’t take much to talk about the first Terminator franchise. Apparently born out of a feverish dream, the story of James Cameron presents us with a cyborg killer sent by the future to kill Sarah Connor, whose unborn son is destined to save humanity from the robot apocalypse.
Robocop (1987)

Haven’t watched RoboCop yet? The classic of the 80’s is mentioned in everything – from Ready Player One to Community to Sailor Moon. It focuses on a police officer who is brutally murdered, only to return as a cyborg in a riot to stop crime.
Predator (1987)

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s films seem to be on that list. A classic action movie, Predator follows an elite paramilitary rescue team chased by a technologically advanced alien.
The Fly (1986)

You could enjoy a classic from the 80’s with the amount of iconic movies in Prime Video. Perhaps surprisingly, The Fly is a remake of the 1958 film of the same name, with only added blood and Jeff Goldblum. David Cronenberg’s film has become a classic in itself.
Tomorrow’s War (2021)

Amazon Prime Video
It’s hard to leave The Tomorrow War off this list because it’s the great sci-fi action video of Prime Video starring Chris Pratt. Next is a teacher who is involved in a war with aliens – in the future. An easily digestible film that you can watch while watching your phone.
Vivarium (2019)

The vivarium is interesting. It may disappoint many viewers with its surreal aspects, but it is still a compelling film. A young couple is trapped in a maze of suburban neighborhoods of identical houses. As they try to escape, they find themselves caring for a mysterious baby.
The City of Lost Children (1995)

UGC
Before Amelie, Jean-Pierre Genet brought her flair and visual styles to science fiction (co-directed by Marc Caro). The City of Lost Children follows an evil scientist who kidnaps children, thinking that their dreams are the key to preventing aging.
The Endless Night (2019)

Amazon Studios
Here’s another great indie science fiction to put on your radar. The huge night gives very good results for a film on a limited budget. Surprisingly high production values, impressive performances and ingenious cinematography help tell the story of two teenagers in New Mexico in the 1950s who are potentially pursuing extraterrestrial origins on a mysterious audio frequency.
Black Box (2020)

For those who miss Black Mirror, this will help to fill this gap to some extent. The black box follows a father who is trying to rebuild his life after a car accident. He agrees to an experimental procedure that takes him to the darkest corners of his mind.
