You Are Not My Mother is a claustrophobic, slow-burn tale that will engulf you. It features Char, a bright teenage girl who lives with her grandmother and her mentally ill mother, Angela. Angela disappears, and when she returns, she behaves eerily differently. It’s a mystery you’ll want to stick with, anchored by a strong central character.

This Finnish creature film is straight out of your feathered nightmares. The film features Tinya, a 12-year-old girl who discovers a strange egg that hatches into a monstrous bird. The hideous creature stands in stark contrast to her family’s expectations of perfection. So it’s kind of like a cursed version of ET Well, maybe not. You can watch and come to your own conclusions.

If you think you are incredibly capable, invisible killing machines as scary, you might watch some of the scenes in Prey through your fingers. This addition to the Predator franchise is set in the Comanche nation 300 years ago and focuses on a young warrior named Naru. Watch this for a compelling underdog story about a man determinedly fighting against a powerful alien.
