The first episode of Survivor season 42 marked the beginning of a new season of the race in a spectacular way. One contestant missed that his work could get him to put his hand in a rhino’s ass, another sprained his shoulder, and a shake in the middle of a challenge caused some survivors to cover themselves with fake blood and mud. And that was all before the 19 new athletes even reached their individual camps.
It was a great weird start to the latest season, which was filmed consecutively after the previous one. Host Jeff is annoyed by the return of the elements we saw applied last time (remember the benefits of attention?), But also promised new twists. The new band hasn’t seen season 41, so they’re in the dark about what’s ahead (No rice! Penalties for losing challenges! It’s rude there).
On a boat heading ashore, we meet several of this season’s crazy members, including an exotic animal vet who provides the aforementioned image of a hand climbing a rhino’s ass, and a self-described gen-zer whose only “camping “The experience comes from music festivals. They arrive on a magnificent Fijian island and the games begin. The three tribes, Vati (green lovers), Taku (orange) and Ika (blue), compete to take oars, go to the water, grab bamboo sticks and construct a rod that they can use to hang a flint ring on it. But near the start of the challenge, one Survivor from each team is stopped and given the opportunity: they can work together to gain an advantage in the game. They are obviously striving for this, a decision that makes them smear fake blood and mud on themselves in order to throw their teammates out of their plans.
The premiere of the season lasted over two hours for live viewers. Ica won the flint challenge and won major camp supplies. Everyone else had to work for it (they got the choice of puzzle or manual labor we saw last season, and they both broke a puzzle with a triangular theme). We meet a few more funny personalities: Romeo, a competition coach from the Ica tribe, jokes that although his dream of winning Miss Universe may not come true, he can at least win Survivor. We learn that the advantage of the prize challenge only works if it is played by several players in tandem. Depending on how many advantage holders are left in the game, the power improves (if there are two left, they can steal a vote; if there are three left, they become an idol).
The Immunity Challenge is a grueling affair that requires teams to push a heavy boat and three large crates ashore. No tribe passes through it, but Vati and Taku win. Back in camp, Ica finds out that Zack, a super fan of Survivor, and Tori, a therapist who lied about being a caregiver, are in hot water. Tori makes some less understanding movements, including searching for an idol and disguise, saying he is actually looking for a tarot root. After all, it was Zack who put out the flames from Jeff. Trible became more interesting than Zack’s choice to shoot in the dark for one and six safety chances. (This was introduced last season, but I don’t think it’s ever been used). Unfortunately, gambling did not pay off.
Harmless observations:
- Daniel, a law clerk, dislocates his shoulder during the prize challenge. He arrives medically and just … brings him back. The show must go on.
- We meet a transgender man named Jackson, who is from the Taku tribe. He is a health worker and shares an exciting background, including his mother’s health problems and how this brings him closer to his father. However, Jeff appears later in the episode and reveals that Jackson cannot continue because he has taken drugs that, with the cumulative effect of this show, could have a bad effect on him. (Jackson did not disclose medical information until just before the start of filming the show). That’s right, the Taku tribe is a reduced member.
- We saw the same climb to the top last season and the same dilemma at the top: each Survivor player could choose to “defend” or “risk” his vote, with the possibility of losing it or winning an extra tribal depending on what their colleagues choose. . Jenny from Vati plays it safe, but Marian from Taku and Drea from Ika take a risk and win the extra vote.
- Before Zack left us, he showed up at the confessional and compared the alliance to waiting to be kissed. As ugly as it sounds.
- This idol of immunity in the form of a dragon? Sick things.
