Pennsylvania Republican Senate candidate and former TV personality Dr. Mehmet Oz received a huge tax break after spending millions of dollars on improvements to his Palm Beach estate, The Miami Herald reported.
A super-luxury upgrade to his beachfront mansion — including a new pool and spa — won a tax break designed to reward the rehabilitation of old historic homes, the Herald noted in an article last month.
The reduction, according to documents reviewed by the newspaper, could save Oz half a million dollars or more over the next 10 years.
News of his home — reportedly one of 10 — is unlikely to be a hit with Pennsylvania voters, who were already mocking the Donald Trump-endorsed candidate after he complained about the high cost of “crudités” during a recent trip to grocery store until made President Joe Biden of inflation.
It is not only his vast wealth that is controversial. He has also been attacked as a “carpet seeker” whose real home is New Jersey, where he has lived for years and where he last voted in 2020.
Oz also has important ties to Florida, where he has “stakes in local businesses, ownership of at least two properties in the state and a leadership position in a local civic association,” the Herald reports.
“Palm Beach is my source of ‘chi,’ a place where I come to regroup,” Oz told Palm Beach Life magazine in 2009.
A spokesman for the Oz campaign insisted to the Herald that the candidate also has important ties to Pennsylvania.
Oz’s rival, Pennsylvania Democratic Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, and many voters did not approve. They once again lashed out at the backward rich reality of Oz and deigned to “parachute” into Jersey for the competition.
A Fox News poll in late July found Oz trailing Fetterman by 11 percentage points, 36% to 47%.
