Today is Valentine’s Day and love is in the air. But for me, it’s always relevant when there’s pizza nearby. For an easy but adorable low-carb treat to show the special person or special people in your life that you really care, serve up one of these delicious low-carb heart-shaped pizzas. Perfect if you’re on a keto diet or just like to eat cleaner, these little pizzas are perfect for when you’re in the mood for pie but don’t need all the calories or carbs.
We take crispy, low-carb flatbreads, top them with no-sugar-added tomato sauce, shredded mozzarella cheese, and heart-shaped pepperoni slices and bake them until they melt and bubble for a quick and easy mini pizza that everyone will love.
note: The total carbs in these pizzas will depend on your toppings and sauce, but should average around 8 carbs. I’m in love!
1. Take some low carb flatbreads, cut them into heart shapes and pre-bake them
The key to keeping the crust of this low-carb pizza is a low-carb tortilla. Almost every major grocery store sells low-carb tortillas, which can have anywhere from 3 to 6 carbs, depending on the variety. You can usually find them in delis, in the Mexican food section, or in the bread aisle, depending on your store. They’re also a convenient low-carb, keto pantry item to keep as a bread alternative, and perfect for low-carb tacos, quesadillas, or enchiladas.
If you’re struggling to cut a round heart-shaped flatbread, it’s really not that difficult. First, start with the bottom of the heart and use a small, sharp knife to cut two slices from the flatbread, making a v-shape. At this stage, the cake should look like an ice cream cone. Then form the top of the heart by making a small inverted triangular cut in the top and then rounding the top of the heart with a knife. Don’t worry, it will be magical, even if it isn’t perfect.
When your heart is satisfied, cook the tortillas in a 325 degree oven for about 10 minutes. This will give your pizza a nice crispy base. They should not give any sensation and should be firm when you take them out of the oven. If you let them cool for a few minutes, they will continue to harden, giving you the perfect thin and crispy, low-carb crust for your pizza.
2. Prepare pizza or tomato sauce without adding sugar
Ttomato sauce or pizza sauce usually contains more carbohydrates than you might think. White sugar is often added to tomato sauces to add flavor and reduce acidity. Instead, look for a sauce with no added sugar. A serving size is usually about 1/2 cup, but you only need a few tablespoons per pizza crust. So just keep that in mind when you read labels. I also like to sprinkle the sauce with a little parmesan cheese and drizzle with a little olive oil for extra flavor.
3. Show some love and make pepperoni hearts
The heart-shaped pepperoni slices in this low-carb pizza are delicious and easy to make. Simply use a small metal heart shaped cookie cutter to cut out the perfect heart shapes. Use pre-sliced pepperoni, found in small bags at the supermarket, instead of sticks, which are more difficult to work with. We used regular pepperoni, but turkey pepperoni or vegetarian pepperoni would work great too.
4. Don’t forget the cheese!
We made pizza with whole milk mozzarella cheese. Shred your own, or for an even quicker recipe, you can buy pre-shredded mozzarella in bags. Some store-bought varieties may include other Italian cheeses, such as Parmesan or Asiago, which can add an extra delicious cheesy flavor.
5. Add pepperoni hearts or other toppings
Add as many toppings as you like along with the pepperoni hearts.
6. Get ready to bake!
We bake these pizzas in a 375 degree F oven for about 5 to 7 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. We baked ours in a pan, but a sheet pan will work just fine. I have made these pizza crusts many times and love them, but I have found that if I don’t wrap the edge of the crusts, they tend to brown more. To prevent burning, simply wrap the edge of the tortilla in a small 2-inch-wide strip of aluminum foil. In this form, the pizza remains absolutely perfect.
7. Enjoy a low carb heart shaped pizza! They are perfect for Valentine’s Day!
How cute are these pizzas!?! While they’re perfect for a Valentine’s Day treat, they can be enjoyed year-round. Just keep spreading the love with pizza!

INTENTIONS
BED PREPARATION
-
Cut both flatbreads into a heart shape (optional). Using a sharp knife, cut each of the bottom sides of the heart in a v shape first. Then cut the top indentation of the heart and finish by rounding the top two parts of the heart. Then bake the tortillas at 325°F until they are firm to the touch. About 10-12 minutes.
-
Then bake the tortillas at 325°F until set. About 10-12 minutes. Remove from oven and increase temperature to 375°F. Let the fritters cool for 2 minutes. Top with a few tablespoons of pizza sauce and spread around the edge of the tortilla. If you like more crust, don’t spread the sauce all the way to the edge of the pizza.
-
Drizzle the sauce with a little olive oil, then sprinkle with a little Parmesan cheese, if desired. Then add a handful of shredded mozzarella, spreading evenly over the sauce. Add heart-shaped pepperoni or any other pizza topping you like.
-
Wrap the edge of the tortilla (crust) with a thin piece of foil about 2 inches wide to prevent the edge from burning. Place the pizza on a baking sheet, large pan, or pizza stone. Bake for 5-7 minutes or until cheese is melted and slightly bubbly. Remove from oven and serve immediately. Enjoy!
