Devconnect is back! See you this year in Istanbul. | Ethereum Foundation Blog

Dear Ethereum community, builders and researchers,

for the first time Devconnect last year in Amsterdam In 2022, we are coming together for a week of in-depth workshops and discussions. Many of those who participated in the sessions and conversations told us they felt Devconnect had a significant impact on the ecosystem by driving progress in tangible ways.

Many expressed their desire for Devconnect to happen again, and after we saw the impact, we wholeheartedly agreed. Today, we can finally share that Devconnect is back again and is scheduled for November 13-19 this year in Istanbul! 🇹🇷

What is Devconnect?

Devconnect is a week-long gathering featuring standalone Ethereum events, each with a unique focus. The goal is to focus on in-depth sessions on specific topics and bring the Ethereum community together in smaller groups to talk, learn, and make serious progress on specific topics. Events during Devconnect will be independent and hosted by experts in those fields – and that may be You! Our team will help promote coordination so that hosts have logistical assistance, and ensure there is minimal overlap in similar areas to avoid pulling participants in different directions. Throughout the week, we will also be maintaining a co-working space for collaboration for all interested.

Most events will target an audience of experts or enthusiasts in the specific field of the event to enable comprehensive understanding and discussions. Unlike the usual conference, we want this week-long gathering to facilitate the deep discussions and conversations needed to continue improving Ethereum.

Devconnect is a natural candidate to apply the proposalWe look forward to seeing the events, impact and progress the community can create during this week. If you are interested in hosting an event, stay tuned for more resources and information.

In addition, we also want to stress that Devconnect ≠ Devcon, which will continue to be our flagship event, and we’re excited to introduce DEFCON 7 to Southeast Asia in 2024.

Why Istanbul 🇹🇷?

Over the past months, we’ve seen one community of developers and students stand out: the Turkish Ethereum community has been working hard to promote Istanbul. However, we have thoroughly evaluated several options for the Devconnect 2023 site, visited several potential sites, given venue tours, and checked availability. We considered many options and evaluated each site before making our final decision.

We are excited to bring Devconnect to Istanbul, Turkey’s vibrant capital, where two continents meet, and we look forward to hosting a great event for the global Ethereum developer community.

But while we want this to be a happy message, we’re also mind-boggling and conscious devastating earthquakes which severely affected southeastern Türkiye and northwest Syria, affecting the lives of millions. Our hearts go out to all those who have lost loved ones or homes.

The area will need support for a long time, and if you’d like to contribute donations, here’s a file existing that some community members have put together. We hope that the decision to bring Devconnect to Istanbul shows our support, and encourages others to support this region in different ways.

We understand that earthquake safety concerns may be on your mind. While Istanbul was not physically Affected by the recent earthquake, we will continue to monitor the situation closely. We hope to meet you soon and together, let’s make something meaningful and special in Istanbul during Devconnect in November.

In selecting Istanbul as the host city for Devconnect 2023, we aim to take advantage of its unique location as a bridge between East and West. Accessibility is a major priority, and obtaining visas for attendees from most countries will be relatively easy. Istanbul, as one of the leading tourism centers in the world, is well equipped with a major international airport to welcome visitors from all over the world. Istanbul’s efficient local metro, and abundance of venues suitable for community events make it the ideal location for Devconnect 2023.

An engaged local community and several student blockchain clubs in the area reinforce our belief in the potential of this vibrant city. We are confident that Istanbul’s unique blend of history, culture, and modernity will provide an inspiring backdrop for the global Ethereum developer community to meet and collaborate with these passionate groups and drive innovation for Ethereum.
