British MP Matt Hancock continues his mission to support blockchain technology with a new NFT pool called “From Ukrain with Love,” according to a statement provided to cryptoslite.
From Ukraine with love
The NFT collection consists of works painted before the war by Ukrainian artist Oleg Mishchenko and will be sold at NFT Gallery in London Mayfair on Monday, February 27th. Money from the sales will go to CARE International UK’s Ukrainian humanitarian appeal. The collection, “From Ukraine with Love,” is curated by Irina Korobkina, who fled Kiev with her 5-year-old daughter after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Hancock’s involvement stems from hosting Korobkina in the UK since April 2022. Mishchenko has been in Ukraine painting “shells falling all around him” before joining his family in December.
“My husband’s paintings and this NFT collection give my family and my country hope. Each piece depicts nature in the wonderful Ukraine. It was a beautiful, prosperous, and peaceful country until Putin launched this barbaric, illegal war.”
Crypto champion Matt Hancock
Regarding the NFT pool, Hancock commented;
“I am incredibly proud of Irina and Oleg, and honored to support the family with their charity NFT pool[…] Oleg is an incredibly talented artist, and the group “From Ukraine, With Love” is really amazing.
Hancock has been outspoken in supporting the blockchain industry with a call to make the UK a “crypto hub”. The West Suffolk MP has previously focused on advocating “a vision of maximizing growth where revenues in the future will be much greater” in relation to taxation and regulation of cryptocurrency.
However, the launch of this new NFT collection shows Hancock’s desire to not only support blockchain as a technology but also promote its use cases.
Speaking at Zebu Live in London in September. 23, 2022, Hancock reveals that he does not own any crypto assets, including Bitcoin. The deputy argued that by not holding cryptocurrencies personally, he was better able to be more objective about his future.
However, this approach is uncommon in the space as a whole, with the majority of crypto influencers personally investing large sums in digital assets.
Hancock has been bullish on blockchain for some time. In 2016, when he was Director General Payroll, he stated,
“The government cannot bury its head in the sand and ignore new technologies as they emerge[…] That’s partly what happened in the past in government with the web… We can’t let (it) happen again by standing by.”
While most of Hancock’s efforts to promote cryptocurrency within the UK occurred prior to 2020, he has re-emerged as the political face of cryptocurrency within the UK government in 2022, with many supporters of cryptocurrency emerging in the UK.
The NFT pool is hosted on Coinbase’s NFT marketplace and launches on February 4th. 27.
